RSVP is Now Closed! Dinner Meeting, Annual Election & Speaker: Estate Planning for Retirement Benefits: Untangling the Proposed Regulations
(As indicated in an email sent to all members this week, registration for our event on May 11 has had to be cut-off at the request of our host venue and the deadline was noon today (5/4/22). This is highly unusual but we ask for your understanding. While things are improving slowly in the supply chain in some sectors, food vendors continue to have challenges meeting demand, thus this deadline was specifically requested by our hosts.)
The Council's fifth and final event of the membership year will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at the Atlantic Grill located at 5 Pioneer Way in Rye, NH. The evening begins at 4:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception held outdoors on their covered patio followed by dinner at 5:30p.m. The Council will also host its annual meeting and election during this event.
We look forward to welcoming back Natalie Choate, Esq. of Ataxplan Publications who will present Estate Planning for Retirement Benefits: Untangling the Proposed Regulations.
Two years ago, the SECURE Act upended planning for our clients’ retirement benefits by abolishing the life expectancy payout for most beneficiaries. Now Treasury has issued proposed regulations to implement SECURE’s changes—and modernize the “RMD trust rules” in the process. Natalie Choate explains the good news, bad news, and “other news” in these comprehensive proposed regulations and how they affect planning for retirement benefits going forward, including:
- The 3-tier system for testing a see-through trust
- New “easy” trust rules for minor beneficiaries
- How to benefit the spouse, disabled individual, or “plain old designated beneficiary”
- When to use (or avoid) a conduit trust
- Powers of appointment, decanting, reformation? No problem under the new regs!
- Plus...charts guide you through the now more-complicated RMD jungle, outline with cites explains everything, and the most frequent SECURE questions answered.
